What Is A Good Home Remedy For Sore Throat, Cough And Sinus Congestion?

Note: I am a diabetic. A trip to the doc is not exactly an option. Have been fighting the sinus and chest congestion since October. Lots of sinus drainage. Which in turn is what I think is making the cough and sore throat.
ANy home remedy ideas that can get rid of this?

After 4 months I think I’d be heading for the doctor too, but if you really don’t want to then for the cough and sore throat I would try hot lemon drink (make it yourself – just boil a pan of water with a lemon sliced up in it). As you are diabetic I won’t suggest adding sugar or honey but I think there are sugar-free sweetener granules you could add just to take away the tartness of the lemon. A shot of whisky or brandy in it always helps me but I’m not sure if you can have that as a diabetic.
For the sinus congestion, steaming is always good. Get a large bowl, fill with boiling water, add peppermint or eucalyptus essential oils (or Olbas Oil), stick a towel over the back of your head and lean forward over the bowl (enclosing the bowl within the towel), and breathe deeply for as long as you can. Warning – the oils may make your eyes water so keep them shut while you do this.
As far as diet is concerned, dairy is considered a common factor in sinus problems and mucus production. Try cutting dairy out of your diet for a month (and yes, I mean all of it, no milk, butter, cheese, nothing with lactose, whey powder etc etc), have a really healthy diet full of vegetables and fruit (more than the rather low recommended 5 a day if possible).
Get some exercise – get out in the fresh air and walk. Breathe deeply.

Try ” Oil of Oregano” – wild Mediterranean Oregano, 75% Carvacrol.
For sinus, cough and sore throat:
    Take 3-5 drops per day.
How to take: Oil of Oregano is known for its hotness. Try at the back of mouth and follow with water; or under the tongue. Or in juice or milk.
    For congestion:
apply liberally to chest, dilute (1:4) in olive oil, before application. Or put a few drops in a bowl of boiled water and inhale deeply for10 minutes.
Contraindications: no known drug interactions. It may thin the blood and may increase the pumping strength of the heart.
For extended use, consider taking a probiotic.

You would’ve needed to take some serious action for a respiratory infection. Waiting four months is beyond ridiculous as you’re playing Russian Roulette on your life.
    Listen up:
    GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!
If you choose not to go, try my remedy that I have always used for flu/respiratory illness:
    1) one raw garlic cloves, 4X/day on an empty stomach in between meals. Do not take 4 cloves at once, not the right way to do it as it needs to be spaced. You need to treat this like prescibed meds. Do this for 4 weeks. I am thinking that you’ll probably need to take it for a few weeks longer due to said duration of infection.
    2) Plain, or vanilla, yoghurt 6X/day on an empty stomach. Do this for the same duration as the garlic.
***You need to be damned aggressive and disciplined with this treatment!
    Remedy purposes:
garlic–allicin is the active component in this herb and is what gives food its spicy flavor. Taking pills is not cost effective and the allicin is lost in the process. Stick to organic garlic, if you can, for the best effect.
Yoghurt–your body has good bacteria and bad bacteria. Your gut’s flora has to come back in balance and yogurt is one of the foods that can do that. It has Acidopholis and is a good bacteria that will help put your gut in a better bacterial state. Your body is in an acid state which means it’s in a diseased state. You’ll need to bring it back to an alkaline state. By ingesting these two foods, you’ll help your body to do this.
****Also, for much better results, get rid of stressors in your life as much as possible, or bring them down to a workable level. Being over-stressed is never good when you’re trying to fight off illnesses, especially ones in the respiratory facets. I cannot stress the importance of 8 glasses of purified or distilled water a day to rid your body of poisons. I know your hear this all the time, but this cannot be stressed enough: eat a diet richer in fruits and veggies and ditch animal and dairy proteins in favor of high quality proteins that you get from other sources. Ditch sugar and get your sugar from fruits. I know this is a terrible subject to bring up, but it’s very important: You need to have a bowel movement one to three times per day. I have one after every meal. The positive results are too numerous to list, and it goes from vitality in your skin to newfound energy to cognitive to relief from arthritis–too numerous to list!
Abandon coffee, tea, milk, soda, fruit juices for water, herbal teas and juices processed in a juicer. The benefits are endless.
Last, but not least, exercise, and no, not just cardio….adopt weight lifting and yoga or pilates. Whatever exercise you incorporate it needs to benefit every aspect of what your body and mind demands.
*******I am not saying that this regimen will definitely work for you as you’ve crossed the threshold four months ago and entered into dangerous territory. I am saying this is what you need to do since you’ve refused to go see a doctor. In fact, I would seek medical attention from a naturopath, but abandon all bad eating habits in the mean time.
Also, say good bye to Starbucks and McDonald’s. You’ll continue to eat their foods if you’re not serious about getting better. They’re loaded with all the poisons you can think of and it’s not against the law! Abandon the Fast Food life style and adopt as close to a primitive lifestyle as possible. You need to give your body a break.
    GOOD LUCK!!!

    Gargle with warm salt water.
Go buy Mucinex. It’s sugar-free expectorant to help your cough be productive.
    Also, sleep with a humidifier.
You may want to get some Sudafed, too.

I suggest some echinacea tea with honey and lemon. Drink several cups. I doubt the honey will effect your diabetes. The best echinacea tea I have found is Traditional Medicinals.

why is a trip to the dr’s not an option? you have had this for 4 months, and you don’t think it merrits a trip to the dr’s. I am guessing you tried all the home readies allready. being dieabetic has nothing to do with it. You need to see a dr. you need antiboitics. and some rest. this can turn into pnemonia and you can die. Hey get your butt to the dr’s.

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Honey will affect your diabetics its a natural sager and should be taken in moderation. As far as it comes to the sore throat gargle salt water (don’t swallow). If you have bengay around the house rub it on your hands the smell from it should clear you up! But as much as I hate to sound like the rest of them you shoud go to the doctor. Good luck!
