older dog with a raw, inflammed, oozy butt.?

Question by Chrissy: older dog with a raw, inflammed, oozy butt.?
I have a seven year old collie who acts more like a 12 year old dog. My vet thinks that when I adopted him the people lied to me and that he really is older. He has arthrtis, can’t go on long walks, and mainly likes to just lay down. Anyway, he seems to have a chronic inflammed butt. It’s all red and moist and it’s painful for him because he won’t let anyone near it, and the few times i’ve tried to use baby wipes to clean it he screams like a banchee. I’ve brought him to the vet multiple times, but nothing seems to be helping…. and being that I can’t get out of there with a bill under 0 and i’m now only working part time so i can go to school… I would like to try some “home remedies” before breaking the bank again. Anyway, we tried simplicef for 2 weeks… it seemed to get better and then came back. Also tried clavamox for 2 weeks, same reaction. I tried feeding z/d ultra, nothing. Another vet said try feeding him wet dog food bc dry food is crap, am in the process of doing that
He’s been getting wet food for about a week, but there doesn’t seem to be anything. I bring him to the groomer once a month to keep the hair around his butt shaved down, and give it a through cleaning(they have the set up to clean dogs, and it works much better than my small cramped shower with a huge dog who won’t let me near his bum). He seems to poop ok, and one of his vet visits they put him under to inspect his butt and they said there were no abnormalities inside it. I was thinking maybe using Hexadene Flush or Malaseb Flush. But, I thought I would see if anyone had this problem with their dogs and can help with a solution?
Just to clarify, I don’t use baby wipes all the time. I tried it like twice, and he didn’t like it so I stopped. Also, this red butt thing has been going on for a LONG time… so it’s something his body can’t fight on it’s own… He also licks it every so often. It’s not ALL the time, but when he does start he gets really into it. Like sometimes when we’re on a walk, he’ll just drop to the ground and start licking it for like 5 mins or so….
oh yeah, and it’s not anal glands. I had them squeezed when it first started and wasn’t that bad yet thinking that’s prob what it was, and they did check them while he was under as well….

Have you tried a numbing spray like Allercaine? Maybe if you sprayed his tush good with that then you could even just rinse with water like a doggie bidet. I wiped a baby wipe over a cut on my hand while changing a grand-baby, and I concur with your dog – OUCH! Luke warm water might even feel good to him, and it’s a simple thing to try. Good luck!

Attention Vet Care Techs Or Assistance: Vet Visits Are High In Price. What Is The Best Home Remedy For Fleas?

One of my dogs is highly alergic to fleas, he is constantly attacking his body and he breaks out tramendously from the flea bites. Besides flea shampoo and other things that the pet store carries. Is there a home remedy that I can use for my dog? Thank you so much and hope that this will save me money.
