flea problem i cant get rid of them help?

Question by Prince of Shananana: flea problem i cant get rid of them help?
me and my wife got a new puppy some one abandoned him in the middle of a freeway and i picked him up and took him home we are major animal lovers and he is a major cutie but out of all the animals i have ever had picked up taken home none have ever had the flea problem this dude has i mean in the last two days we have given him 8 flea baths and every time we get a dozen or so fleas off of him and he is less then five pounds a few hours later he is infested again ( we ant afford front line or advantage or a vet visit I wish we could ) ive dealt with hundreds of animals and have never had this problem before, I know garlic is a “home remedy” but I love the guy and i dont know how much is too much and he is so small so im not going that route we have been using ( sergeant’s gold flea and tick shampoo for dogs and puppies kills adult fleas for up to 14 days kills flea eggs for 30 days 0.10 % permethrin/ piperonyl butoxide technical .50%/ pyripoxyfen 0.01%) i have been using this stuff for years but it doesn’t seem to be doing it for this problem has any one else had this problem ? and do you have any suggestions of what worked for you besides a 200.00 dollar vet bill because we just cant afford it
stop yelling at me like a child you know every thing there is to know i live in southern california rent is 700 dollars for a one bedroom apartment a vet visit is 75 dollars just to see the dog not counting the frontline at 65 dollars an d no you cant get it at petsmart unless they have a vet in the store and ours doesnt and im not going to drive a hour just to go to another one

You cannot keep doing the flea bath thing. Dogs should not be bathed near that often not to mention bathed in poison! You are killing him! STOP! And DO NOT feed him garlic! Garlic is POISONOUS to dogs! Here is the cold hard honest truth, you need to buy frontline, advantage, or Revolution. Nothing else works period. Yes it does cost some money, but you can buy one dose for now (it will not be 0) you can even buy it at petsmart, and look at the different kinds because I beleive 1 frontline treatment lasts for 3 months. Also once the fleas have been gone a few months you might not have to keep medicating. You just need to get them and all the eggs dead and prevent reinfestation for a few months and then you may not need to worry.

Beyond that of you can’t afford it you may have to face facts and realize that you cannot afford to keep this puppy and if that the case its unfair to him for you to keep him when someone who can provide proper care and love him just as much as you do could have him. Find him a new home where you know he will be well cared for and loves or give him to a shelter. He will also need full vaccinations and to be fixed, are you going to be able to pay for that? And what about training and food? You know what needs to be done.

You should be yelled at because even though you think you are doing a good thing you are at the same time essentially abusing this dog by refusing to provide him with care or take him to someone who can. 0 a month is not all that spend!? And excuses me but where I live you can buy these products at the check stand at any pet smart and being that they are a national chain I would assume it would be the same anywhere, and besides that you don’t need a vet visit to purchase these products you can simply go into an office an buy it. And seriously you don’t sound like you are in any financial situation to be having a dog at all esp if you live in an apartment. Be an adult and do the right thing!

What home remedies can I use for my dogs skin?

Question from a Reader, Answers in Comments

My dog had a bad flea problem. We have FINALLY gotten rid of the stupid things but my dog still scratches and his skin is very red. He even has a few spots that are bleeding. He has lost some hair but the Vet told us that it will grow back. Are there any home remedies that I can use to soothe this poor guys itching?
