Home Remedy To Get Rid Of Roaches?

Just moved into new home and it has regular little house roaches. I refuse to live with bugs. We’ve already bombed the house twice and sprayed everything with Roach, Flea, Tick, Spider Repellent. Claims it “Kills on Contact”, but I’m finding this hard to believe? Any help is appreciated.

There is a cheap and very effective method. Buy a box of Borax laundry detergent and sprinkle the powder around your baseboards , under sinks, etc. You can even put it in your cabinets with food and dishes because it is completely non-toxic. This makes it great if you have pets or children in the house. The roaches get the borax powder on their legs and bodies and carry it back to the nests. Not sure exactly how it works – but it is lethal to roaches. This really does work. I always do this at the first sign of a roach in my house and have never had any problems with infestations.

they just dont go away.. try the powder that they walk on and carry back to the nest. I cannot think of the name at the moment

Boric acid, it is very effective when used properly for killing cockroaches and most other insects. You can also get a house lizard, they are natural enemies and will eat them.

Roaches are what they say could live through a nuclear blast.
Consult a professional. It sounds like the home solutions sold at the food store have failed you. Also, be sure to seal any cracks or openings you can find in your walls, ceilings, and floors.

In order to be rid of the roaches, you should seek professional help, like Terminix, or someone like that. They will spray & powder your home, inside & out, which is very effective. They will also set up regular visits to come back to spray. It’s not that expensive & it will definitely get rid of the roaches.

Find the nest, here is my story:
I kept a clean apartment but what started attracting roaches was when I moved my iguana out of a class cage into a wire cage about 6 feet tall. I began noticing roaches. The exterminator came out but I would not allow him to spray my pets room (seen no roaches there). The exterminator told me that he seen no roach nest but sprayed the apartment anyway. Later, I continued to see roaches and checked my pets room since that was the only room not sprayed. I found the roach nest in a small box next to my iguana’s cage. They would leave the box and eat my iguana’s droppings and return to the dark box. The nest was “ugly” with about 24 adult roaches, eggs and baby roaches.
3 months Later, I had roach problem again, checked my iguana’s room and could not find roaches in there so I just sat and watched/waited. Seen a roach crawl from under my pets light stand. Took the stand into the bath tub and begin spraying it. Out came another 2 dozen of large roaches, babies and inside were eggs, again, leaving the light stand to enter the cage and eat the droppings and return to the base of the light stand.
I sprayed the room and now will invest in roach motels. Good luck.
P.S. If you have them, look for the nest !

Clean EVERYTHING- If there is no food they will leave. Also a powder in an old oil size can- I think it is called Roach Proof. Works great! Sprinkle around cabinets & stove & fridge and anywhere else they may find food. They will get use to the poison after awhile & it does not affect the eggs that are unhatched so it takes awhile. But like I said, if there is no food they will leave & go to your neighbors house, till there is food at your house. There are plugs to place around your home to keep them away. Roach-Proof works great in the home tho.

Try Boric Acid. It’s a powder that you’ll put into a squeeze bottle and puff it into crevices. I do not recommend if you have small children. You are at an iptimal time to get rid of the little suckers now because your walls are open and you can get into all the spots that they hide. You’re absolutely right to tackle it now. Good Luck with the Reno.

The best defense against cockroaches is a clean kitchen and bathroom. If roaches are a problem in your home or apartment, vacuum well and wash the area with a strong soap. Dispose of the vacuum cleaner bag in a sealed container.
    Also try:
    # It is a little known fact that roaches like high places. If you put boric acid on TOP of your kitchen cabinets (not inside), if space allows between ceiling and cabinets, the roaches will take the boric acid to their nests, killing all of them. Boric acid is toxic by mouth – keep away from children and pets. more info about boric acid
    # Catnip is a natural repellent to cockroaches. The active ingredient is nepetalactone, which is non-toxic to humans and pets. Small sachets of catnip can be left in areas of cockroach activity. Catnip can also be simmered in a small amount of water to make a “catnip tea” which can be used as a spray to apply around baseboards and behind counters. This natural repellent should only be used in homes without cats!
(A site visitor who has tried this sends the following comments)
    # Keep a spray bottle of soapy water on hand. Spraying roaches directly with soapy water will kill them.
    # In an empty one pound coffee can, place 1 or 2 pieces of bread which have been soaked thoroughly with beer. Place in areas known to have roach infestations.
    # Leave bay leaves, cucumber slices or garlic in the affected area as deterrents.
    # The fruit of the Osage orange tree, the hedgeapple, is a natural roach repellent. Leave one hedgeapple per room for effective deterrence up to two months. You can learn more about hedgeapples for pest control at hedgeapple.com.

Oh you don’t have to go through all that expense to kill roaches, just use Boric Acid mixed with a little sugar they will come to the mix take it with them and die and they will also take it to the others and they will die too, just put in a jar lid and place in corners preferably where they are entering if not just find some corners along the baseboard in kitchen this is the place where roaches usually hang out because of the food around, place in the back of cupboards as well, just becareful not to put this stuff where it is accessible to pets and small children, also place around usually behind ovens if you can, they go here too. Replenish this mixture from time to time when you notice the amount getting smaller. How this works is that Boric acid causes roaches to dehydrate and die. Good Luck !
