Can Somebody Suggest A Good Home Remedy For Sore Throat?

I believe that I caught a really bad flu from my classmates – they’ve all been sick lately. Anyway, I started off with only a little bit of coughing and runny nose, now my lymph gland is frigging swollen and I’ve loss my voice when I woke up this morning. I’m not on health insurance at this moment so I’d love to try out some useful home remedies before spending my $$$ on the doctor. Can somebody give me some help?
Thanks :)

Try some tea (perhaps green tea) with some honey. Also try the throat sprays (chloroseptic)…if you get the spray into the right spot, it works wonders.

  2. acid tongue

gargle with a few drops of iodine in a zip of water

  3. enano

use moutwash and do gargles with it

  4. Caribbean Blue

Take LOTS of vitamins. Vitamin C and other vitamins are best. I take six a day when I get sick. Also, drink hot things like hot chocolate. The gargling with salt water thing doesn’t work with me. It just burns my throat. The honey and lemon juice kinda works, but it’s pretty nasty to taste.

You’re getting some great suggestions for the pain, but you should also take something to dry up your sinuses. That’s what’s making you throat hurt and taking your voice. It happens to me with every cold. So, drink your tea (I also like Ricola losenges) but also take something so that this stops and you can get your voice back. Hope you feel better soon!

Gargle with hot salt water. It’s gross but it really works. Try and do it every hour or so, as long as you can stand to.

Farmers Almanac is always good for home remedies.

Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar to 2 parts water, warm it up but not hot. Gargle with it twice daily. If your ears are itchy or sore put a couple drops in each ear.
Take garlic pills or eat it raw.
Stay off dairy and sugar until you are better.
I also take Vit. C, Echinacea, Zinc, and Goldenseal.
And drink lots of water or hot tea with honey will soothe your throat, buy pure raw honey.

Make tea and add a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar.
2 things you need to know – it tastes very bad, and it can corrode your teeth. Using a straw to drink will help with both. Just position the straw at the back of your mouth.
You can also try chamomile tea with honey (no vinegar).
Wrap yourself in blankets and wear socks and booties… get warm, very warm. This way, you’ll sweat it out.

    warm chamomile tea w/ honey-

First you should make sure your bod gets lots of rest. I just read in one of my magazines how to “Heal thyself”
For the stuffy nose is suggests drinking 1 tsp of freshly grated horseradish mixed with 1/4 cup of lemon juice. It works because horseradish produces quick mucus realease, and lemon juice helps it go down easier.
For a sor throat, mix 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of honey
One tbs of this mixture taken six times a day will soothe your throat
The honey fights infection and coats the throat, relieving irritation, while the vinegar kills bacteria!
For mino congestion, an old fashioned bowl of chicken soup helps! It has been proven that chicken soup actually reduces phlegm by inhibiting the production of certain types of white blood cells.
Let me know if this helps you feel any better. When wiping that runny nose, use soft tissues, otherwise your nose will get so sore! I always take DayQuill or NightQuill for my colds and drink lots of tea!

Warm tea and honey.. Or if you have $5.00 go to the store and buy Airborne, it will cut your sickness in half.. By the lemon/lime flavor!

  21. advicemo

you can buy a cheap humidifier at walgreens for like $15, if your room is kind of steamy it’s easier to breathe. when your throat already hurts, dry air makes it so much worse.

  22. poof1095

Drink some hot tea….or really drink anything. hot will help though. try tylenol, antihystamine. all will help the sore throat. or suck a few hard candies.

  23. Ally

gargle very warm water with a teaspoon of salt in it 3 times a day, and the fruit breezers work really well too!

  24. mischa

    Gargle with warm salt water.
chloroseptic spray will numb your throat.
Flu medicine, that has pain med mixed with it will help, like Tylenol flu medicine.
If your lymph nodes are swollen, you should call your Dr, and get an antibiotic, you could have tonsillitis/ bronchitis/ mono/ sinus infection. You probably lost your voice due to drainage running down the back of your throat.
Check your temp, report to the Dr if it is outside of 95.0 to 101.0.
Drink at least a gallon of fluid a day, it can be juice/ water/ Popsicles/ jello/ broth.
A Harvard study proved that chicken soup really does help fight a cold and infection.
Maintain good nutritional intake, such as eating protein/ fruits/ vegetables.
Get alot of rest. Let your body try to heal itself.

  25. P*Kitty

hot tea w/lemon…theraflu if you have some…gargle with some warm salt water

  26. Kat

Warm salt water gargles. Taste nasty, but help. If you start noticing white spots on the back of your throat, or are not getting better, go to your county health department to see a doctor. It is cheap and generally they can help with the cost of prescriptions.

  27. Chris™

hot tea…add lemon juice and honey

  28. phooey

there is an exceptional over the counter suppliment called Airborne … it is like a Vitamin C and Zinc Alka Seltzer. it will help reduce the time of the sore throat.
some will say gargeling with warm salt water (a teaspoon or 2 of salt) into a warm glass of water (heated slightly) or even tea with honey …

  29. For sure

    Slippery Elm herb

  30. Schleppy

I still think the old salt water gargle is still the best to ease the pain and scratchiness. Get the water very warm, almost hot, and put a couple teaspoons of salt in it.
Also, since you can’t gargle constantly, I drink cups of hot water with honey and lemon all day. Downside: you have to visit the potty a lot.
And of course, pain killers like Tylenol or Ibuprofen help. I think people forget that they work for throats, too !
    Hope you feel better !

  31. country girl

Try gargling warm (almost hot) salt water for the sore throat. It could also be strep throat. If it is you might want to go to the doctor.
